Vodacom Insurance is introducing free Siyakha Funeral Cover in South Africa.
The telecom giant said the funeral cover is the first product to launch under the new Siyakha Price Plan, which will also see customers receive up to 50% in additional airtime value whenever they recharge their airtime balance.
As part of the initial launch, the plan will offer cover of ZAR10,000 to the first 100,000 people who switch to the new Siyakha Price Plan.
To date, more than a million Vodacom customers have signed up for a range of insurance policies, which include cellphone cover, laptop cover, life cover and funeral cover through Vodacom insurance.
Vodacom chief officer for the consumer business unit, Nyimpini Mabunda, said: “The emerging market segment, which is the Siyakha audience, is extremely value conscious and price sensitive. Therefore, flexibility and affordability are key priorities to consider when introducing new products to this market. With our continued investment in big data, we will continue to offer more personalised products and services that will address the primary needs of this segment.”
The company explained: “When Vodacom launched Siyakha six months ago, the platform offered free (zero-rated) and lower priced products and services, with the aim of lowering the cost to communicate in South Africa, while simultaneously seeking to increase digital and social connectivity.”
One of the first products launched under the Siyakha banner was Facebook Flex, which it claims is now used by more than 1.3 million customers. In just six months, more than 450,000 subscribers to the mother and baby platform have accessed information from breastfeeding, immunisation, nutrition, HIV/AIDS and sexual and reproductive health.
