The Access to Insurance Initiative (A2ii), International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) and the Inter-African Conference on Insurance Markets (CIMA) will hold the Mobile Insurance Conference in Douala, Cameroon on 23 and 24 February 2017.
The conference will dwell on the regulatory challenges of using mobile insurance.
Middle to senior management level representatives from insurance supervisory authorities, central banks, data protection agencies and telecommunications authorities as well as industry stakeholders, relevant international institutions and donor agencies; are expected to share the opportunities that are available in mobile insurance and to make insurance more inclusive.
The conference will also focus on key issues affecting mobile insurance such as prudential and market conduct risks associated with mobile insurance.
The conference will also take a deeper look at key regulatory considerations and approaches, and look into ways to build cooperation across different regulatory authorities, data protection, and building consumer awareness.
Digital technologies, including mobile insurance have experienced rapid growth in recent years. Mobile Network Operators and Technical Service Providers are changing the insurance landscape.
In Zimbabwe Econet is using mobile insurance through its Ecosure platform. The EcoSure brand has launched a new service “Thwala-Sonke” a new affordable life insurance service which can be bought from across all mobile networks.
The conference comes at a time when regulators and supervisors grapple with the ever-changing technological landscape.
